I recently became addicted to young coconuts. The water, the meat, it's all so scrumptious! I read on some website about the treatment of the coconuts - they are dipped in bleach/preservatives before shipping, which kind of grosses me out. I spoke to the produce manager at Jimbo's, who assured me that the treatment doesn't really affect the pulp and juice, since it's protected by a pretty hard case.

Anyway, it's really fun to eat and it's my new obsession!

In other news - I made a delicious vegan pesto lasagna last night. I used a recipe I found online and I will post pictures and the link to the recipe on here soon.

Weekend fuzzies

Lovely things in no particular order:

1. Mountain Fruit Co.'s Strawberry Jam
2. Getting my dog and friend fix at the Balboa park dog park today w/ Megan and her labs (I fell in love with this little guy, above)
3. Giant Chai lattes from Krakatoa
4. Getting ideas on painting my room
5. Cracking open our new book club selection
6. Finally seeing the (brilliant) new Charlie Kaufman film
7. Leaves changing color + the crisp autumn air
8. Working at home tomorrow & having Tuesday off
9. Gingernize Jamaica Cool
10. Getting to sleep in (but also getting to wake up early) on the weekend

Sunny+Wet Sunday

I've been waking up early on Sundays for the past two weeks in order to make it to the CSA pickup at the Swedenborgian church. This has given me a new appreciation for Sunday mornings. Today, I found out that this early wakeup means that I can make it to the farmer's market in time for an actual parking spot.

The smells at the farmer's market were amazing. I saw a Russian lady selling blinis, which is kind of exciting, she was charging an arm and a leg for them - my mom is in the wrong business.

This is my loot from the CSA this week:

- a bunch of curly carrots
- lettuce (greenleaf?)
- a big bunch of dill (who needs that much dill?)
- some sort of yummy pink apples
- chile peppers
- an onion
- persimmons
- dates
- baby spinach
- kale
- pretty, green mystery fruit (i am thinking it's cherimoya... hmm?)
